Soul Noodle of Miyazu City
Miyazu Curry Yakisoba

Just after the war, Mr. Wang, a Chinese chief from Taiwan moved to Miyazu. He opened a restaurant named “Heiwa-ken (a peaceful restaurant)” with a wish to peace and created a very unique noodle dish opening up a new generation of Noodles.

The taste originally based on chinese cuisine combined with a spicy curry flavoured soup originally from India blended well with the noodles and other toppings used. This brand-new noodle dish, combining the essences of several countries’cuisines stimulated the appetites of the citizens of Miyazu who were struggling to get through hard times after the war.

“Ramen”, “Curry and Rice”, and “Yakisoba”.
Now these dishes are so famous that they could even be considered “national dishes”. However, in the 50’s, they were all still very new and unfamiliar cuisine recently brought in from overseas.
The birth of the Curry Yakisoba could be considered a miracle throughout the world due to its unique flavor and successful combination of three different types of cuisine.

Mr. Wang’s Curry Yakisoba

Half a century has now passed since then and unfortunately Mr. Wang’s “Heiwa-ken” noodle shop is no longer in business.

But people who grew up knowing the taste of Wang’s dishes still talk about their memories of his original Curry Yakisoba. They recall a vivid memory of the taste that comes rushing back just by closing their eyes and that also cherish their memories of that period after the war when everyone was desperate just to survive.

Now in Miyazu, we have several restaurants which serve Curry Yakisoba. Some are faithfully reproduced with reverance for Wang’s dish while others have quite new styles and their own original tastes.

Wang’s dish have been loved throughout the long maintained peaceful era and has become a kind of “Soul Noodle” for the people of Miyazu.

I hope that the Curry Yakisoba will be famous and bring joy and peace to people all over the world.
